Rosacea is a condition characterized by skin inflammation due to swelling of the underlying blood vessels. Pimple-like eruptions also appear on the skin, which causes redness. In addition, this disorder may be accompanied by itching and a burning sensation on the affected area.

Symptoms of rosacea are usually prominent on cheeks, forehead and nose. At times, they extend to the neck and scalp as well as the eyes, which causes watery discharge due to irritation. These symptoms may come and go as breakouts appear from time to time. Moreover, this skin condition generally affects Caucasian people, particularly those in their 30s.

Good personal hygiene is always the key to maintaining good skin. Wash your face regularly using only mild soap and lukewarm water. Extremely hot water can dilate the blood vessels, which can cause skin redness. Thereafter, gently pat your face dry using a soft cotton towel to avoid abrasions.

Skin irritation is also the likely cause of rosacea flare-ups. Avoid skin-care products that tend to irritate the skin. For instance, most astringents and facial cleansers can be harmful to the skin. Carefully select only those mild facial care products to avoid irritation.

Minimize your exposure to the sun's UV rays. Prolonged exposure can cause rosacea flare-ups. If you have to go out, apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful rays. Drinking plenty of water also helps minimize the likelihood of rosacea breakouts. Cold water, in particular, lowers the body temperature and effectively soothes the dilation of blood vessels.
