A Patient-First, Whole-Person Approach to Skin Care

Dr. Buck: Board-Certified Dermatologist

hyde

Who is Dr. Andrea Buck and what makes her different from all the other dermatologists and skin care practitioners?

"I have always prided myself on 'going the extra mile' for all of my patients. My staff and I will always go above and beyond to make sure every single patient receives the best care that we can deliver. I consider myself to be a 'soulful' dermatologist who always has the patients' best interests at heart. I am the doctor who is also a patient, so I am extremely compassionate for everyone who sits on my exam table. My mantra is, 'I hate getting pain, so I will do everything in my power not to give any pain.' I am very proactive and aggressive when treating skin disorders and growths. I have a two-week rule: If a growth or lesion is new or it changes and it does not go away in two weeks, come see me. 'If in doubt, check it out.'

"During my well over 30 years in the health care profession, I have developed a mission statement that says, 'To empower all patients to value their inner beauty above all else,' and my first core value is 'Care Without Compromise.' In this specialty, it is especially easy to exploit the profitability of cosmetic procedures. That's why I am mindful of my patients' finances. I don't practice from the pocket, I practice from the heart. I work within patients' financial constraints as much as I can, and I give lots of samples if I have them. My incredible staff does everything in their power to get procedures an prescriptions preauthorized. We work with several specialty pharmacies that will often fill very expensive, non-covered medications with minimal or no co-pays."

Dr. Buck has several treatment-oriented trademarks, including the "Bother Scale," "Perma-Rid" for the permanent, non-scarring treatment of annoying warts, "Delitique" for the painless injection of Botox and others.

Dr. Buck has over 20 years of experience as a board-certified dermatologist. Her diagnostic abilities are close to 99%, which has been tracked with a log book since she first opened her practice. And while most issues of the skin are non-life-threatening, she prides herself on the earliest detection of all types of skin cancer, especially melanomas – which are potentially lethal. Further, she prides herself on aggressively treating the multitude of troublesome and often annoying skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, itchy rashes such as eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, actinic keratosis, dry skin and many others.

She has also had extensive postgraduate training in laser medicine and in all aspects of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. She is one of the leading injectors of neuromodulators such as Botox®, Xeomin® and others as well as the multitude of fillers, including Juvéderm®, Voluma®, Radiesse®, Belotero Balance® and others.

Dr. Buck comes from humble beginnings. She was born and raised in Pennsauken, New Jersey. She attended the University of Delaware, where she graduated first in her class in 1979. She practiced as a licensed physical therapist until 1982, when she entered the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and also graduated first in her class in 1987. She states, "It wasn't enough to just become a doctor. It was imperative to learn everything I possibly could and be the best doctor I could possibly be because I knew I would be taking care of other human beings, a responsibility I take very seriously."

While at PCOM, she won numerous awards and was inducted in Phi Kappa Phi, which is the national honor medical society for all medical school graduates.

She then became the chief intern at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. After completing her internship, she practiced family/internal medicine for four years before returning to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Graduate Health Care System for her residency in dermatology. Her training took place at the best hospitals in the New Jersey-Philadelphia areas, including Cooper Medical Center, Jefferson University, Hahnemann University, Pennsylvania Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania.

She has presented numerous lectures at national dermatologic meetings and won several awards for her presentations. She also earned her board certification and remains active in teaching as an adjunct professor in dermatology.

What else is there to know about Dr. Buck?

  • I have a beautiful married daughter and an adorable baby grandson.
  • I love riding in my jeep with the top down (with sunblock when I remember).
  • I love to go to flea markets and hunt for treasures.
  • I love the beach (I do wear sunblock now, but I'm paying for not wearing it in my earlier years – I am a patient, too).
  • Although I do not have any tattoos and I am trained to remove them, I appreciate body art – especially when there is special meaning or significance behind the art (see my forthcoming photo gallery I will call "the story behind the art").
  • I love to work out and try to do so at least twice a week.
  • I give myself my own Botox injections (very carefully... I hate pain).
  • I admit that while I embrace the many, many aspects of the aging process, I, am "fighting" some of its physical and cosmetic aspects, as well.
